Once upon a time a sick little boy named Conrad lived under the oppressive rule of his tyrannical aunt, Miss Anthrop. Conrad's only friends are found in his wild imagination, and in a forgotten old tool shed, where he keeps a frazzled Anabaptist duck, as well as something much more peculiar... namely, Orson, a mysterious beast who lives in a locked cupboard in the dark shed, and inspires Conrad to embrace the fierce, impatient side of life. Conrad the Wise is a whimsically dark fable about imagination, rebellion, and hot, buttery toast.
